GUWAHATI, May 19 � Science Fair 2015, an inter-school science model exhibition-cum-competition was held at Maria�s Public School on May 16 with an encouraging participation of 20 leading schools in the city, a press release received here stated.
Kamal Gogoi, Inspector of Schools, Kamrup Metro, Dr Anil Kumar Goswami, retired principal of Cotton College and chairman of Maria�s Educational Trust, Dr Rituparna Patowary and Dr D Barooah, assistant professors in Cotton College, attended the inaugural function as the chief guest, guest of honour and judges respectively.
Gogoi expressed happiness by saying that Maria�s organises events not only in science but also in all academic fields every year. He urged all students to take part in competitions and events organised by the Government. Dr Anil Goswami, in his speech, spoke on the issue of inculcating good spirit in children. He further said that the skill of entrepreneurship can be developed at the school level itself.
�Honing the scientific temperament and developing thinking capacity in young minds have been our constant endeavour. The annual science fair works to achieve that,� said Nellie Ahmed Tanweer on the occasion. The fair saw a display of science models on innovative ideas on robotics, aero-modelling, waste and rainwater management, stem cell and nanotechnology, soil treatment, solar energy, etc.
�Management of mine spoils by micro remediation� � a Sarla Birla Gyan Jyoti entry by Class X students � was adjudged the overall best model in the competition. The Sudershan Public School with its model on �Soil Free Farming with IMEC technology� and the Army Public School with a model on �Underground filtration� were the first and second position winners in Group A. The host, Maria�s Public School bagged the first prize in Group B with their model on �Stem cell and nanotechnology,� while the Gurukul Grammar School won the second prize in this category, the release added.
