Intelligence wing of Assam Police soon

GUWAHATI, Oct 15 � The Assam Government has decided to create the Intelligence Branch of the Assam Police as a separate autonomous organisation with a dedicated cadre of intelligence officers.

An official release said that this decision was taken at a meeting of the State Security Commission chaired by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. The Government is of the view that creation of such a body would improve intelligence gathering in the State.

The meeting decided to form a Research and Analysis Centre with multi-disciplinary experts for analysing the socio-economic and cultural developments by collating information from all possible sources.

It also discussed threadbare the steps to be initiated for separation of law and order from investigation.

The members of the State Security Commission which was reconstituted on December 21, 2011 include Justice (retd.) SK Kar, SB Kakati, former DGP Meghalaya, Jatin Hazarika, former Commissioner & Secretary, Home, Dr Md Taher, eminent educationist and litterateur, Chief Secretary and DGP. The Secretary in charge of Home Department is the member secretary of the commission.
