Integrity of Assam will be preserved: Himanta

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 25 - As the government inches closer to signing a peace pact with Bodo rebel groups, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said there is no proposal to create a Union Territory or divide the State further.

He termed as baseless media reports which indicated that parts of undivided Sonitpur will be merged with BTC.

These reports are not based on facts. Assams territorial integrity will be preserved, he said.

There is no proposal to either create an UT or include parts of Sonitpur in BTC as has been stated in some sections of the media. Therefore, people need not be confused by the rumours, he asserted.

While the Centre is keen on signing a peace accord at the earliest, the Bodo militant leaders have been reportedly asked to draft a charter of demands and present it to the government. The demands should be within the ambit of the Constitution, the government has made it clear.
