JORHAT, April 1 - CBI officials arrested a senior Branch Manager of New India Assurance Company Debabrata Rakshit in Sivasagar yesterday on charges of accepting bribe of 10 per cent of a claim amount.
A police source in Sivasagar said that Rakshit was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant.
The source said that CBI laid a trap at the insurance company office at KP Chariali in Sivasagar town and the Branch Manager of the company was nabbed red-handed while accepting the bribe.
The source said CBI had registered a case against the official in the investigating agency�s office following a complaint lodged by a customer named Parikshit Baruah recently.
Rakshit had allegedly sought 10 per cent of the Rs one lakh from Baruah, who was to get the amount as insurance claim after his commercially-registered vehicle met with an accident.
After receiving the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and nabbed Rakshit red-handed while taking Rs 10,000 as bribe from Baruah. Rakshit was taken to Guwahati for production before the CBI court.
