AGARTALA, July 21 - With the Lok Sabha election due next year, regional political parties including Asom Gana Parisad (AGP) and Bodoland Peoples Front are on the move to constitute a regional forum to jointly take on the BJP and Congress.

To chalk out a well designed plan, a meeting of regional parties has been called in Guwahati under the aegis of AGP. The meeting is scheduled to be held on July 22. A five-member delegation of Indigenous Nationalist Peoples Party (INPT) headed by its president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl has left for Guwahati to join the regional parties conference.

Although the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship Amendment Bill are on top of the agenda of the meeting, it is learnt that the coming Lok Sabha election would also be discussed there.

We are going to join the meeting to discuss some important issues including NRC, the Citizenship Amendment Bill and empowerment of ten Autonomous District Councils (ADCs). We will put forward our view on these issues, said INPT general secretary Jagadish Debbarma today.

To a query, the veteran tribal leader said the party has geared up organisational activities keeping in mind the next years Lok Sabha elections. As of now, we havent decided whether the party will go the polls alone or not. However, if there is specific offer from any national political parties, we will consider it, he added.
