GUWAHATI, May 15 � Not confining itself within the restrictions of formal education, the North Eastern Technical Education Society (NETES) of the Institute of Technology and Science (NITS), Mirza, is promoting grassroots innovations that can make a difference in the lives of many.
Devoted to the holistic development of the region and supporting an all-round development of the engineering students, the engineering institute is teaching its students to shoulder social responsibility along with inculcating professional excellence.
Students of NITS Mirza demonstrated �single bucket rain gauze�� a rainfall gauging equipment designed to measure the rainfall, temperature, humidity etc., at the Press Club here. Developed by the students of the institution, this equipment has been installed at various locations of Guwahati, including Lachit Nagar, Basistha Chariali, Maligaon, ABC, Rukminigaon, Ulubari and Goswami Service free of cost.
�For any weather related queries or solutions, we need accurate scientific data, in the absence of which, proper measures could not be taken to solve any problem. We get data from our weather gauzing machines at different locations to know the exact statistics of rainfall, temperature, etc., which could be combined or compared for any research purpose,� said Secretary of NETES, Professor Arup Kumar Misra. He also proposed to install a similar equipment on the Press Club premises.
Another equipment for accurate and uniform cutting of incense sticks that can help the upcoming entrepreneurs to set up their industries with reduced efforts, was also demonstrated. It would also be useful for the existing incense stick makers.
The institute has also entered into a tie-up with the Flo Learning, Bengaluru, for skill upgradation to help the engineers and technocrats of the region to get a national platform. With this collaboration, the institute is focusing on necessary hard skills and soft skills from the first semester of engineering, to ensure that the students of this institute also develop creativity, innovation and capability.
