Innovations key to societal development: Conrad

SHILLONG, June 14 - Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, today underlined the importance of innovations for a society and said an economy of a country or region gets tremendous impetus through innovations.

Inaugurating the Digital Planetarium Space Education Centre and Innovation Hub at Shillong Science Centre, NEHU, here, Sangma said, Meghalaya�s Start Up Policy 2018 encourages innovation.

�If you look at the world the leading economies are those that are driven by innovations. Innovations are an integral part of any economy of a country,� Sangma said.

In this regard, he said, the State Government does acknowledge the importance of innovations and the Start Up Policy 2018 provides a platform for innovations to thrive.

Through innovations the entrepreneurs and industrial sectors grow which leads to growth of economies, the CM said, adding, much needs to be done to create innovative minds that will produce great entrepreneurs and industrialists.

�The youth of the State have great talent and potential; what is needed is thrust and help to explore and realise their talents and creativity,� he said.

The Chief Minister added that the culture of Science must be instilled in the students and schools need to create Science Clubs and hold periodic innovative, Mathematics and Business Plans competitions in the institutions.

Sangma urged the students to take full advantage of the Shillong Science Centre and �remain curious, creative and innovative.�

In another event, the CM said, the government has been encouraging public participation to improve the overall education scenario in the State.
