Injured stray rhino recuperating at Zoo

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 6 - The rhino that had strayed into Tezpur town and adjoining areas and was later tranquilised after a lot of effort, is now recuperating at the Assam State Zoo.

The rhino was tranquilised at Bhuyapara near Sootea on July 3, and subsequently put in the zoo the same night.

Following its tranquilisation, it was discovered that the rhino which had probably strayed out of the Kaziranga National Park, had injuries on its shoulder, ear-tip and leg.

The rhino is being kept at a secluded enclosure and treated for its injuries. It is responding to the treatment and we are monitoring its progress. We hope it will recover, Zoo veterinarian Bhaben Kakati told The Assam Tribune.

Kakati said that the injuries on the adult male rhino seemed to have been caused by sharp weapons.
