Inflammatory speeches sparked exodus: elders body

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 18 The Guwahati Senior Citizens Association, in its meeting held today, attributed the mass exodus of Assamese students and Northeastern people from several western and southern cities of the country to the irresponsible and highly inflammatory speeches of minority community leaders, like Badaruddin Ajmal of Assam and Asaduddin Owaisi of Hyderabad.

The association, in its meeting held under the presidentship of DN Chakravartty, strongly criticized the failure on the part of the governments of anticipating the impending reaction which might occur in the wake of the happenings in BTAD area.

The association called upon the Centre and the governments in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Delhi to strengthen their intelligence machinery and take strong action against all those responsible for creating sense of fear and helplessness in the minds of the Northeasterners residing in those States.

The association by another resolution conveyed greetings and best wishes the Muslim brethren of Assam on the occasion of Idd-ul-Fitre.

Tabiul Hussain, member in charge of administration and coordination, read out the proceedings of the last meeting.
