Industry Minister hopeful of PBSLs regular functioning

By CORRESPONDENT

MANGALDAI, Nov 14 - State Minister for Commerce and Industry Chandra Mohan Patowary is hopeful about revival and regular functioning of the Prag Bosimi Synthetics Limited (PBSL) located at Bijulibari village under Sipajhar constituency in Darrang district.

Patowary has assured that he will do the needful for the proper revival of the first polyester filament yarn manufacturing industry of the North East.

Talking to the media after his visit to the 28-year-old textile unit on Friday, Patowary said, I want to assure you that the government will do something good for its future. But I cant say everything right now. Give me some time.

He enquired about the progress of the ongoing work for the Centrally sponsored Rs 40-crore textile park close to the industrial unit, and later expressed dissatisfaction over the progress at a snails pace.

The Central government has not released the necessary fund for the park since the progress of work is not as expected. Till date, the government has released an amount of Rs 12 crore, while its co-partner Hemanta Byas has invested Rs 3 crore in the Rs 40-crore project, the Minister stated.

Later, Patowary visited a proposed industrial site at Badiasisha village and the site for a proposed Skill University at Gerimari village near Mangaldai.

The Minister was accompanied by Sipajhar MLA Binanda Kumar Saikia, Industry Departments Commissioner and Secretary KK Dwivedi and senior officials of the AIDC.

It may be mentioned here that though the industrial unit was launched with an annual production capacity of 25,000 tonnes and staff strength of around 300, it remained defunct for more than seven years, in five different phases, due to various socio-economic factors, including alleged apathy of the previous governments.
