Indo-China border trade infrastructure

GANGTOK, June 12 � Sikkim Minister for Commerce and Industries, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ugen T Gyatso today inaugurated the newly-constructed Indo-China Border Trade Integrated Check Post and Trade Mart Building, at Nathula and Sherathang respectively.

The integrated check post at Nathula has a total plinth area of 4,945 square feet. Considering the cold climate at Nathula, the building has been furnished with central heating system. The check post also has meeting room, doctors chamber, quarantine room, rest room, and parking yard.

The Trade Mart has a plinth area of 8,939 square feet. The mart which has 37 shops is also equipped with central heating system. Both the structures are prefabricated.

Terming the occasion as historic, Gyatso while addressing a gathering of locals and traders near Sherathang Mart appealed them to use and utilise the infrastructure properly to enhance their trade and business. Volume as well as value of the trade has gone up in the last nine years, the Minister added.

Officials informed that last year Nathula trade export grossed Rs 17 crore.
