MUSHALPUR, Jan 29 - The sixth edition of the Indo-Bhutan Friendship Mela and the 64th Subankhata Magh Mela got under way at Subankhata in Baksa on Wednesday.
The programme started with the opening of the main archway by Maneswar Brahma, MLA of Barama LAC. Hoisting the Indian Tricolour, Baksa DC Mahadananda Hazarika stressed on the need of a common flag for the event, while his Samdrup Jongkhar counterpart Goling Tshering hoisted the Bhutanese national flag expressing the hope of galvanising the age-old Indo-Bhutan relationship.
Phalindra Kumar Basumatary, the local MCLA of the BTC, urged the people of either nationality to boost cultural, trade and emotional relationship.
The friendship mela will conclude on February 3.
