Indo-Bangla Sylhet fest planned

KARIMGANJ, Oct 16 � Under the auspices of the South Kolkata Sylhet Association, the three-day Indo-Bangla Sylhet Festival, 2014, is going to be held from December 26. The festival will be organised at the Boys� School Field at Jodhpur Park, Kolkata. It was disclosed at Silchar by Sadhan Purkayastha, one of the organisers of the Sylhet Festival Committee.

Purkayastha said that altogether 300 Sylheti representatives would participate in the festival that also includes the Jalalabad Association, Dhaka, as co-hosts. Bangladesh Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Bangladesh Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Bangladesh Deputy Finance Minister MA Mannan are likely to be present in the festival.

Moreover, Bangladesh Supreme Court judge SK Sinha, Sylhet City Corporation chairman Arikul Haque Chaudhury, Silchar MP Sushmita Dev, Karimganj MP Radheshyam Biswas, Dhubri MP Badruddin Ajmal, Barpeta MP Sirajuddin Ajmal, MLAs Mandira Roy and Kamalakshya Dey Purkayastha, British Parliament member Roussan Ali Miah and others will also attend the festival, he said.

Purkayastha further said that the festival would be dedicated to Abdul Karim, the UNESCO-awarded poet of Bangladesh. The main motto of the Sylhet Festival is to introduce the ancient Sylhet civilisation and the socio-cultural heritage of the place to the world, he added.
