Indo-Bangla meet on river water sharing today

By Correspondent

Agartala, Feb 7 A ten-member delegation of Bangladesh will arrive Sarboom in South district on Monday to inspect the proposed water treatment plant at Anandapara, 6 km from Sabroom town.

The 6.5-lakh-gallon water treatment plant, which was mulled six to seven years back, could not be implemented due to opposition from the Bangladesh Rifles(BDR).

Recently, at a meeting of Indo-Bangla joint river commission in Delhi, it was agreed to allow Tripura to use water of river Feni. But BDR authority again obstructed engineers to initiate the work near river Feni leading to stalemate of the project.

Accordingly, the issue was taken up with the Centre by the Tripura Government. The visit of Bangladesh Water Resource Ministry officials and BDR is seen as follow up action taken on the part of the Centre.

There will be a discussion on the proposed sharing of water with Bangladesh delegates at the Chief Engineers meeting scheduled for February 8, said SC Das, Chief Engineer of DWS here today.

The Indo-Bangla meeting which will be held at Sabroom Dak Bunglow is scheduled to be attended by Chief Engineers of both sides.
