Indo-Bangla meet ends

AGARTALA, May 27 - The Indo-Bangla DM/DC level meeting has vowed to work together to address common concerns � cross-border movement, illegal infiltration, smuggling of drug and narcotics, border fencing and border trade.

After a two-hour brain storming session aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two sides, CK Jamatia, who led the Indian team, on Monday said the meeting of Indo-Bangla DM/DC level discussed some important border related issues.

In the meeting, both sides presented their views on how to solve the pending border issues from smuggling of drug/narcotics and border fencing to border trade. �In the meeting, both sides laid Action Taken Report (ATR) prepared based on the decisions taken in the last meeting in Dhaka�, he said.

�The meeting was cordial and fruitful. We want to work together for mutual benefit of both sides�, Jamatia, who is the DM of North Tripura district said.

On the Bangladesh part, Dy Commissioner of Maulovi Bazar Md Tofie Islam while echoing the same spirit said, various bilateral issues were discussed in the meeting. �Mainly, we discussed border related issues � crime, smuggling, fencing and border haats in the meeting. And, the meeting was fruitful�, he said.

However, the delegates of Bangladesh expressed concern over smuggling of drugs and narcotics from India to their country even as there has been all out efforts to stop the menace here. In fact, the new government has taken some serious steps to prevent smuggling of drugs and narcotics along the border.

The Dy Commissioner said two border haats in Dhalai and Unakoti districts would come up by next two or three months as the things have made good progress. At present Tripura has two border haats � Kamalasagar in Sepahijala district and Srinagar in Sabroom subdivision.
