Roing (Arunachal Pradesh), April 21 - India�s second longest bridge connecting Roing and Pasighat is all set to be opened in Arunachal Pradesh. The yet to be named 6.20 km bridge will connect Roing and Pasighat through Meka which is around 50 km from Chapakhowa.
The bridge, on the river Dibang, is almost complete barring some minor works like painting and planting of grass along the approach roads. It was earlier scheduled to be inaugurated in March this year.
Though the bridge is yet to be formally inaugurated, the authority is permitting crossing of the bridge. With this state of the art bridge, another strategic link to Arunachal Pradesh has come up to provide quick mobility to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) during emergency.
Nine major rivers including the tributaries of Brahmaputra apart from numerous nullahs course through Arunachal Pradesh. During rainy season most parts of the State remain cut off due to flash floods. So bridges are vital to ensure connectivity to the strategic roads located along the Chinese borders. Improved border infrastructure for better connectivity has also been completed in Sikkim following the Doklam standoff.
On December 12 last year, Union Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre inaugurated the 300m long Deopani bridge at Roing which links Lower Dibang Valley with Upper Dibang Valley with Assam. About 150 strategic bridges are being constructed in Arunachal Pradesh to ensure mobility of Defence troops and supply of materials to the LAC.
This Correspondent recently had the experience of crossing the newly constructed bridge adjacent to which another bridge has been completed. The bridge is constructed by Navayuga Engineering Company which has also built the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Setu. The area located in Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh is thinly populated. Before the bridges came up, people had to cross the Dibang river on country boat.
Very near to the Dhola-Saikhowa Bridge (Dr Bhupen Hazarika Setu) and Roing, one visiting the place need to cross the Dibang river through the new bridge to enjoy the scenic beauty of the area.
Now people from Roing can travel to Dibrugarh through Pasighat in a short time even during the monsoon season.
