By The Assam Tribune

Kolkata, Aug 2 (PTI): The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) will set up its fifth centre in the Northeast and start academic activities in its two-year old Chennai centre by next year.

Either Imphal or Itanagar will be the location of the new ISI centre and a final decision in this regard will be taken after examining all aspects and talking to the State governments concerned, the new director of ISI, Prof Bimal Kumar Roy, said here today.

"About 10 acres of land is required for the centre. A team will be sent to Imphal and Itanagar soon to talk to the Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh governments respectively over the project. After the team submits a report, the final decision will be taken," Roy, who took charge yesterday, told PTI.
