Indian lifters win gold, bronze in SAG

Dhaka, Jan 31 (PTI): Indian lifters fetched one gold and one bronze in weightlifting at the National Sport Gymnasium complex here today.

Omkar Otari earned India the gold, while Rustam Sarang bagged the bronze in the men�s 62kg weight category.

Pakistan�s Mohammad Istiaq Ghafoor claimed the silver medal. The trio lifted 258 kgs each but Omkar, who weighs 61.30kg, topped on basis of his body-weight.

Earlier, Indians had disappointment in store in the 56kg men�s category as V Srinivas was disqualified.

Sri Lankan Kamal Bandara got the gold, while Akramul Haq (Bangladesh) and Ghafoor Adullah (Pakistan) took silver and bronze respectively.

No Indian took part in the men�s 69kg category where Sri Lanka and Pakistan bagged the gold and silver respectively.

No bronze medal was awarded in the men�s 69kg category as the contestant from Nepal disqualified.

India defeat Sri Lanka 7-2: V Raghunath and Mohammad Aamir Khan scored two goals each as India beat Sri Lanka 7-2 to register their second consecutive victory in the 11th South Asian Games here today.

Fresh from their 21-0 mauling of Nepal yesterday, Indians today put up a spirited display at the Moulana Bhashin Stadium as Dharamvir Singh, captain Ajitesh Roy and Pramod Kumar also chipped in with one goal each to complete the tally. Sri Lanka pulled back twice through captain Abeyarathne, who scored in the 15th and 60th minutes.
