India, Oman raring to go in World Cup Qualifier

GUWAHATI, Sept 3: Both India and Oman teams arrived here last evening for their FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023 China qualifying match to be played at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Sarusajai here on September 5.

Both the teams are raring to go for the match which will be the maiden encounter of this group. Qatar, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are the other teams in this group who will play against each other in home and away basis.

Giving details regarding the last minute preparations in a press conference, the president of the Assam Football Association (AFA), Naba Kumar Doley, who is also a State Minister, said, �The Sarusajai stadium is all set to host the crucial match. Apart from the pitch, the entire stadium complex has been given a bridal look with the help of the State Government and the teams will find the best possible ambience to show their best.

�The officials of the AFA along with Directorate of Sports and SLAC provided a warm welcome to both the teams at the LGBI Airport in Borjhar immediately after their arrival last evening. The Indian team has been accommodated at the Radisson Blu while the Oman team is staying at Novotel,� said Doley.

After having rest in their respective hotels, the Indian team had a workout session at the Sarusajai practice ground while the visiting team enjoyed their practice session at the SAI ground.

Altogether 23,000 tickets were printed for the match out of which 8,000 were released through BookMyShow.

The organisers are expecting a capacity crowd and appealed the football loving people of the city to encourage both the teams by making their way into the stands.

AFA secretary Hemendra Nath Brahma said that yesterday they had a thorough discussion with the officials of the FIFA and All India Football Federation regarding preparations.

The 25-member Indian team led by Sunil Chhetri is studded with Assam player Vinit Rai.

The match on Thursday will kick-off at 7.30 pm.
