India envoy to Philippines calls on Governor Mukhi

GUWAHATI, June 28 - Indian Ambassador to Philippines Jaideep Mazumdar today called on Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan here and discussed wide-ranging issues vital to boost bilateral relations between India and the Philippines, with special emphasis on Assam.

Mazumdar is in Assam to hold talks with the heads of the State government to discuss a wide array of issues for India to take up with the Philippines to strengthen bilateral ties.

Considering the immense potential of Assam in the food processing and tourism sectors, the Governor and the envoy talked at length about the ways to take both these sectors across the border so that a collaborative approach can be adopted for complete development of these sectors.

Mazumdar also said that considering the similarity between the climatic conditions of Assam and the Philippines, both the geographical territories can venture into agricultural tie-ups by sharing technical know-how.

They also maintained that for the success of the Government of India's Act East Policy, there should be constant interactions between the peoples of Assam and the Philippines, as they vowed to start exchange programmes in the fields of education, culture, trade and business, etc. Prof Mukhi assured all help from the State government for strong and sustained Assam-Philippines relations.
