Independents win top 3 posts in Cotton polls

GUWAHATI, Oct 3 - Independent candidates won the posts of president, vice president and general secretary in the polls to the Cotton University Students� Union (2019-20), results of which were declared today. Hirak Jyoti Patowary was elected president, Manisha Deka vice president and Rahul Bordoloi general secretary.

AASU-backed candidates bagged several posts. Abhilasha Neog was elected assistant general secretary, Hrishikesh Goswami was elected editor of Cottonian, Anubhuti Dutta girls� common room secretary, Animesh Bhagabati cultural secretary, Barnali Bodo was elected secretary of athletics section, Sourabh Garg secretary of cricket section, Mohima Chetry minor games secretary and Mukul Deka was elected gymnasium secretary.

Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti-backed Abhishek Bhadra was elected boys� common room secretary, Bhargav Rajbongshi was elected debating and symposium secretary, Ankita Deka music secretary and Vaibhav Kr Gupta was elected secretary of football and hockey section.

Another independent candidate Angshumita Bharadwaj was elected social service secretary.
