By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 31 - Upamanyu Hazarika, an Independent candidate contesting the Lok Sabha elections from here, today highlighted the issue of tribal people losing their land to non-locals and big government projects.

Hazarika addressed meetings at Jugdal, Sonapur Bazar and New Market in the Sonapur area and also at Paltan Bazar here today.

Tiwas, Karbis and Bodos have been increasingly losing their land to non-locals and several large government projects. It endangers the identities of these tribal communities, from Sonapur to Morigaon, he said.

Hazarika also raised the issues of protective legislation securing land, jobs, trade, etc., for locals for preserving the ethnic fabrics of these communities.
