Independence Day celebrated all over Assam

GUWAHATI, Aug 17 - The 69th Independence Day was celebrated across the State with pomp and grandeur. Our correspondents report:

Digboi: The 69th Independence Day was celebrated centrally for the entire Margherita subdivision at the Central Field of Margherita in the presence of a large gathering of the public including school children.

The chief guest of the celebrations was Jibantara Ghatowar, Parliamentary Secretary to the Govt of Assam. Prior to the hoisting of the National Tricolour, Ghatowar paid tributes to the martyrs by lighting a ceremonial lamp and offering flowers on a specially-decked column for the purpose.

Pradyut Bordoloi, local MLA and former minister, Sanjeev Kumar Barhoi, SDO (Civil), Dr Pradeep Saikia, SDPO and other heads of departments and educational institutions also attended the programme.

Dr Bipul Kalita of Tirap Gate Medical Dispensary and Amulya Dutta, Principal of Town Higher Secondary School of Margherita among others, were felicitated with the Best Social Service and Best Teacher awards respectively in the function. In the cultural show, the music presented by the JK Regiment Band, gave a real treat to the gathering. The flag-hoisting ceremony was followed by distribution of fruits among the patients of the Margherita Civil Hospital and Coal India�s Central Hospital at Margherita.

At Digboi, the National Flag was hoisted by PK Gogoi, ADC of Tinsukia district at the Jubilee Field. At Gandhi Maidan, floral tributes were paid at the marble bust of Mahatma Gandhi by Rameswar Dhanowar, local MLA, while Abu Hussain, president of the National Celebration Committee of Digboi hoisted the flag.

DERGAON: The 69th Independence day was celebrated with gaiety at Dergaon. The Tricolour was unfurled by the Dergaon Circle Officer, Lakhimi Dutta at the central programme held at the Naren Sarmah memorial field here on Saturday. Taking part as the chief guest, Dergaon MLA Arati Hazarika Kachari urged the gathering to cooperate with the developmental activities of the government.

Earlier, the smriti tarpan was initiated by noted freedom fighter Ganesh Hazarika. Cultural programmes like devotional songs competition, march past etc., along with art competition were also held.

The day was also celebrated with great enthusiasm at Dergaon Police training complex. The National Flag was hoisted by DIG (TRG/EB) Dergaon Sayed Ataul Karim, IPS at the programme held at Police Training College (PTC) stadium. The programme was attended by PTC Principal Pradip Pujari, 11th APBn Commandant Abu Sufian, BTC Commandant Satyaraj Hazarika, RTS Commandant Bhupendra Nath Hazarika etc.

Namrup: Namrup witnessed the celebration of the 69th Independence Day in its three industrial houses, educational institutions and other socio-cultural organisations with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm yesterday.

At the Assam Petrochemicals Ltd here, the National Tricolour was unfurled by the Managing Director Ratul Bordoloi. He also inspected the �guard of honour� by the security personnel of APL.

At the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Ltd (BVFCL) here, the National Tricolour was unfurled by its Director (Production) SB Singh. A host of colourful programmes were also organised to mark the occasion.

At the NTPS too, the Tricolour was hoisted by its General Manager.

KALAIGAON: Independence Day was celebrated at Kalaigaon and Tangla with gaiety.

At Kalaigaon DN Hazarika, Circle Officer, Kalaigaon Revenue Circle hoisted the National Flag at Gandhi Bakori field before receiving the march past salute offered by five contingents namely� Lokapriya Bordoloi Public School, Tengabari LP School, Kalaigaon HS School, Girls of Kalaigaon HSS and Pride Academy in the presence of nearly 4000 people.

The Circle Officer felicitated meritorious student Seema Sarma for showing excellent results in the last HSLC examination. Spectacular cultural events were also arranged on the occasion by boys and girls to the delight of the people present.

At Tangla, Bhaskarjyoti Manta, Circle Officer, Harisinga Revenue Circle hoisted the National Flag at Tangla HS School play ground. March past contingents of police, schools and colleges took part in the march past event. Several persons were felicitated on the occasion for their outstanding service and talents. Unfortunately, Atlanta Das of Arunodoi Academy, Tangla, the topper in the last HSLC examination in Udalguri district, with 94.5 per cent marks and a few other meritorious students were left out to the dismay of people present.

DOOMDOOMA: The Independence Day programme here, began with the garlanding of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, by senior citizen and retired professor of Doomdooma College Ramesh Goswami.

In the main function held at Doomdooma Town Field, the Circle Officer of Doomdooma Revenue Circle, Nayanjyoti Bhagawoti hoisted the Tricolour. He also addressed the gathering. Local MLA Dilip Moran and ex-MLA, Dileswar Tanti also addressed the gathering . Freedom fighter Kandarpa Deka was felicitated by the Circle Officer at the function.

The Rotary Club of Doomdooma, felicitated academician Dr Abdul Qudir and journalist and social worker Arjun Baruah for their contributions to the society. The club also felicitated a few people for their sincerity in performing their duties. They are- Jyotishman Neog (SI, Doomdooma PS), Kalyan Gogoi (NRC worker), Sah Miruj (sports organiser), Pushpal Sharma (health worker, Doomdooma FRU) and Bikram Tanti (cleaning worker, Doomdooma Town Committee ). The prizes of the drawing competition organised by the club were also distributed in this function. The Club also awarded Gauranga Handique with Ajit Kumar Baruah Memorial Award for securing highest marks in HSLC Examination-2015 from Doomdooma centre.

The day was also observed at the Doomdooma Press Club (DPC) where its president Anuj Kalita hoisted the Tricolour in presence of the club members.

Independence Day was also observed at Kasturba Gandhi Labour Welfare Centre (KGLWC) situated at Daimukhia Tea Estate near here. The KGLWC president, Jatin Saikia hoisted the National Flag.

Patacharkuchi: The Tricolour was unfurled at Pathsala Bajali HS playground by Subhalakshmi Deka, SDO (C), Bajali subdivision. She also inspected the parade.

LUMDING: With the rest of the State, Lumding also celebrated the 69 Independence Day in a befitting manner.

The National Flag was hoisted at Shahid Field by Animesh Talukdar, Magistrate (CO) Sankardeb Nagar, Hojai. A colourful cultural function was organised at the initiative of Arun Borah, OC, local police station, in association with the staff. National Flags were hoisted by all educational institutions, business organisations, political parties, trade unions, clubs, NGOs and all the offices and of the State and Central Government.

NAGAON: Independence Day was observed in Nagaon where the Tricolour was unfurled at the Nurul Amin Stadium by Minister Rockybul Hussain. He also took the salute of the march past presented by Police, Home Guards, Scouts, NCC and students of different educational institutions.

Cultural programmes were also presented by different groups. Before unfurling the National Flag, Hussain paid floral tributes at the statue of Gandhiji, Nehru, Gopinath Bardoloi, SubhasCh Bose and Motiram Bora as well as at the bust of Haladhar Bhuyan, Mahendra Nath Hazarika, Dev Kt Borooah and Purna Kt Sharma. Fruits were distributed among the inmates of Civil Hospital, TB Hospital, Sankar Mission, State Home, destitutes home etc.

AZARA: Independence Day was celebrated with joy and gaiety in and around Azara area. All government and non-government offices, educational institutions, and gaon panchayats in the area observed the Day by unfurling the Tricolour. The defence wings including the Army and the Air Force at Borjhar and BSF at Patgaon and the Guwahati office of the Airport Authority of India also observed Independence Day. Jalukbari Kendriya Nagarik Committee also observed the day and organised different competitions among the children.

Assam Women�s University: Independence Day was also observed at the Assam Women�s University. The Registrar of the university Krishna Gohain, hoisted the National Flag at 8 am. This was stated in a press release.

Hoisting the Tricolour, she commemorated the legacy of the freedom fighters for whose sacrifices India won its freedom in 1947. All the students, faculty members and the staff of the university were present on the occasion.

RAHA: Independence Day was observed with great zeal and enthusiasm at Raha. The Tricolour was unfurled by the Raha Circle Officer Pallavi Kachary at the Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika playground. In the beginning, the Circle Officer took the salute of the march past by Raha Police Station, Raha HS School NCC Boys, Scout-Guides and Raha College NCC cadets. After the flag hoisting, a cultural programme was held where a large number of school students took part. A number of distinguished guests besides the local people took part in the celebration.

Mushalpur: The official function of the 69th Independence Day celebration of Baksa district was centrally organised at Mushalpur Revenue Circle Office playground where the Tricolour was hoisted by Mahadananda Hazarika,DC, Baksa. He also received the guard of honour. A multilingual cultural extravaganza, parade, felicitation of freedom fighters, artists, senior citizens, ideal farmers etc. ;games and sports marked the celebration.

Liza Sneider and Clemens Saursich � German research scholars, Phulba Wungdi, ADC of Samdrupdzongkhar (Bhutan), a host of freedom fighters, social activists, intellectuals, political leaders including BTC EM, Ansumwi Khungur Boro, MCLAs of Dihira and Koklabari BTCLAC, SP, Baksa, officials and a cross section of people attended the function.

SILAPATHAR: Independence Day was celebrated at Silapathar and its adjoining areas in a befitting manner with several cultural programmes.

The Sissiborgaon block Congress Committee observed the Independence Day at its office. The National Flag was hoisted by Dr Lenindra Kumar Doley, senior Congress leader. The programme was attended by Dhemaji District Congress Committee secretary Harinath Pegu, block president Pranab Bora and several others.

SONARI: The 69th Independence day has brought special happiness for the people of Charaideo subdivision as the Government has declared Charaideo as district alongwith four others. Sarat Borkatoky, Eduction Minister hoisted the Tricolour at the public play ground here. The gathering erupted with joy and happiness when Borkatoky announced that the Government of Assam has declared Charaideo as a new district alongwith four others.

GORESWAR: Independence Day was celebrated at the Goreswar Revenue Circle Office premises, where Debeswar Bora hoisted the Tricolor in the presence of citizens, gaon- burahs and school students. Besides, Biswajit Daimary, Rajya Sabha MP along with Ganesh Kachari, EM Sukla Serfang hoisted the National Flag at the Bibekananda School field. Sahabuddin Ahmed, central committee president, ABMSU hoisted the National Flag at Bhogpur office, in Baksa district while Monoranjan Kalita OC (I/C) of Gashbari Police Camp and Hemanta Deka, president, Bardangerikuchi Gaon Panchayat hoisted the National Flags separately at Gashbari Chowk at different times under Baihata Chariali Police Station. Minati Devi, Pricipal of Patidarrang Jr. College, Loch(Nasatra) and Dr SS Dutta, SDMO and HO, Bihdia Block PHC also hoisted the National Flags.

Chabua: Anita Sharma, chairman of Chabua Town Committee hoisted the National Flag on Independence Day at the Chabua Town Committee premises. In the function, Binod Hazarika, president, Dibrugarh district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Chandra Kumar Bhuyan, retired principal of DDR College Chabua, Prafulla Kumar Sarmah senior journalist of Chabua, Brojen Baruah, ex-chairman of the Chabua Town Committee spoke.

Biswanath Chariali: The 69th Independence Day was celebrated at Biswanath Chariali and Gohpur in Sonitpur district, too, along with the rest of the country. The National Tricolour was unfurled at Kachari Maidan here by Bibekananda Doloi, Parliamentary Secretary, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Government of Assam, which was followed by a guard of honour presented by Assam Police, NCC and Scouts and Guides of Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalaya.

Earlier, the Parliamentary Secretary paid floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Cheniram Das Children�s Park. MLAs of Biswanath and Behali LACs, Prabin Kumar Hazarika and Pallav Lochan Das, respectively, Chairman, Biswanath Municipality Board Ruli Sharma, Biswanath SP, Manabendra Devroy, former minister and social worker, Dr Kosheswar Borah, former minister Noorjamal Sarker, Circle Officer, Biswanath, Sanjiv Doloi etc., were also present on the occasion. A good number of people and meritorious students were felicitated in the programme.

At Gohpur: SDO (C), Gohpur, Sanjay Dutta hoisted the National Flag amidst enthusiasm of local people and government officials.

At AAU:The final year students under Rural Agriculture Work Experience Programme of Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat celebrated the Independence Day at Morol Gaon LP School here. The celebration started off with the hoisting of the flag by the school headmaster Jitendra Nath Hazarika. Further a brief speech was delivered by the headmaster followed by a tree plantation activity. Earlier, the final year students of AAU, Jorhat organised a drawing competition and a cleanliness programme in the school on eve of the Independence Day. A total of 40 students took part in the competition. A cleanliness programme was also held.

RANGIYA:The 69th Independence Day was celebrated with great pomp and show amidst a mammoth gathering at Rangiya HSS playground of the loacality here. Parliamentary Secretary, Labour & Employment, Govt of Assam, Raju Sahu was the chief guest on the occasion. Troupes of the Assam Police Battalion, NCC, Bharat Scouts & Guides, students from different schools of the locality presented a colourful march past. The chief guest Raju Sahu unfurled the National Flag. Later, freedom fighters, popular farmers, players etc., of the locality were felicitated. A colourful cultural programme was also organised by students from different schools.

Golaghat: Independence Day was celebrated at Golaghat with various programmes. The day was centrally celebrated at the Sammanay pathar in the town.

The Tricolour was unfurled by Sarat Saikia, Parliamentary Secretary, Finance. The function was attended by Anowarul Haque, Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat, P Pal Singh, SP, Golaghat and other government officials and the local people.
