TURA, April 6 � Ampati town will once again go back to its shutdown routine after five days of relaxation called by the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) outfit in view of the Easter celebrations.
The indefinite shut down in Ampati town will resume tomorrow after the government failed to respond to its demands. Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma paid a visit to his constituency during the shut down call to show his solidarity with the people.
In a press release, the outfit stated that it would continue with the shutdown call after not receiving a positive response to its demand to suspend the policemen involved in the killing of son of Nokma of Oragitok, Sengbath Ch Marak.
The outfit listed four resolutions adopted at its meeting. �In future , if police kills an innocent public, the MLA of that particular constituency shall pay Rs 7 lakh to the family or the relatives of the victim. The local MLA shall file an FIR and he must bear all the court expenses of the family/relatives, who have suffered a fake encounter�, the first two resolutions said.
Further, �The MLA himself shall institute a magisterial or judicial enquiry into the killings in every fake encounter that takes place in his constituency. The compensation must be paid to the family/relatives of the victim within 15 days after the fake encounter�, said the release.
The outfit warned that the resolutions should be abided without fail. The release warned the MLA concerned that they would first attack the family of the MLA, destroy the residence and properties while the MLA and his families would not be permitted entry into Garo hills.
