DERGAON, Aug 26 - At a time when the Centre and the State government are speaking about the success of the �Skill India� Project, the incomplete Mini Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Bagarijuri under Paschim Kaziranga Gaon Panchayat on the Golaghat-Karbi Anglong boundary area, has turned into a ghost house as it has been overrun by jungle.
The foundation stone of the project costing crores of rupees was laid by the then minister Pithvi Majhi on the initiative of local MLA Arun Phukan in 2010-11.
The local residents along with the people of Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts dreamt that the proposed mini ITI would help the youths get skilled training in different fields, specially in the tourism sector, as the greater Kaziranga area has matured into a tourism industry.
In the beginning, 80 per cent construction works were completed but later there were delays. And now with ten years gone, the construction of the ITI has remained incomplete. Some of the materials were stolen by miscreants and the building has turned into a shelter of wild animals as it has got covered with jungle.
Though the locals have approached Atul Bora, the sitting Bokakhat MLA, who is also a minister but there have been no positive results. The residents have alleged that public money was wasted in the name of the ITI and have demanded immediate completion of the institute.
The Bokakhat District Committee of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has also demanded the visit of the Agriculture minister and the local MLA Atul Bora to the Mini ITI site and to take steps for its immediate completion.
