SILCHAR, March 5 - The Assam government must include Manipuri language in the civil services examinations, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said here on Wednesday.

Biren Singh was addressing a large gathering at the two-day World Meetei Convention, 2020, jointly organised by the Pan Meetei Convention and the Assam Manipuri Progressive Front at Lamagram under Sonai constituency in Cachar district.

There are simmering grievances over Manipuri language not being included in the civil services examination in Assam. I have spoken to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and also discussed the issue with Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, and urged their intervention at the earliest, the Manipur Chief Minister said.

On the issue of the Inner Line Permit system, Biren Singh said there was no chaos or untoward incident in Manipur over ILP. Expressing happiness over the World Meetei Convention, the Manipur Chief Minister said there could be a Manipur Guest House in Cachar district soon.

Former Union Minister Kabindra Purakayastha, along with K Rabindra Singh, Deputy Speaker of the Manipur Assembly, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Barnali Sarma and other distinguished personalities attended the inaugural ceremony of the convention.
