HAFLONG, Oct 27 - Incessant rain has thrown normal life out of gear in Dima Hasao, thus causing severe inconvenience to the people in places like Haflong, Maibang, Mahur, Langting, Hatikhali, Harangajao, Umrangsu etc.
At Langting, due to incessant rain some places have become waterlogged and resulted in inconvenience to the motorised traffic as well as the pedestrians. People do not dare to come out from their respective houses due to continuous downpour. The hanging bridge at Pampu Ghat and many other parts along NH- 54 were washed away in between Langting and Hatikhali.
The river Jatinga swelled and crossed the danger level and washed away three boulder- carrying trucks at Harangajao. The road communication between Harangjao and Silchar was disrupted due to landslide at several locations.
Though Saturday was the weekly market day at Haflong, people preferred to remain indoors as there was no sign of the rain stopping immediately. Many places at Haflong were therefore submerged and reports of landslides were galore.
Meanwhile, the District Disaster Management Authority alerted the entire line departments to remain on standby mode round the clock. While restoration work near N Leikul was carried out, in other places too emergencies were taken care of.
Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner Amitabh Rajkhowa informed that all possible measures were being taken to meet nature�s fury so that no human lives or property are adversely affected due to incessant rain followed by heavy landslides.
