DIMAPUR, Oct 27 - Incessant rains in the past three days caused flooding in 14 locations in Dimapur district, rendering many families homeless.

A report of Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority today said flooding has been reported at Toulazouma, Bade, Tsithrongse and Selouphe villages, Naharbari, Darogajan, Ekhyo Yan (Domokhia), Purana Bazar B, Purana Bazar Model colony, Khushiabil, Siethekema Basa-7th Mile village, Thahekhu village block-7, Thilixu B-3 and Khopanala village.

The report said the Dhansiri and the Chathe rivers are swelling and flowing at dangerous levels blocking the outflow of drainage channels and rivulets, causing intense flooding in the adjoining areas.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who is also the chairman of Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, today visited the flood-affected colonies and villages, including Naharbari, Darogajan and Ekhyo Yan, to take stock of the situation.

He handed over Rs 10 lakh to Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Kevekha Kevin Zehol, who is the chairman of Dimapur District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), to distribute among flood-hit people as immediate relief.

The Army Relief Column in coordination with the 5th Assam Rifles, the district administration, Dimapur DDMA evacuated 68 stranded persons, including minor children, from Ekhyo Yan.

The 5th Assam Rifles also provided medical aid and food packets to the rescued persons.

The evacuated persons were shifted to Government Primary School, Ekhyo Yan, and were provided essential commodities by the district administration and the DDMA.

A State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team evacuated 17 persons at Toulazoma and 20 people at Bade village.

So far, eight relief camps have been set up at Ekhyo Yan, Naharbari, Darogajan, Kushiabill, Purana Bazaar, Toulazouma and Selophe.

Swelling waters of the Dhansiri river washed away the recently inaugurated Tisthrongse rope bridge.

While Siethekema Basa village road has been swept away, crops and houses have also been damaged at Selouphe and Khopanala villages. Seventy percent of Thahekhu village has been submerged. An estimated 100 people are reportedly trapped in Domokhia.

The DDMA, SDRF, home guards and civil defence have rescued marooned people from Tsithrongse village while the SDRF have pressed inflatable boats into service for search and rescue operations.
