Incessant rains submerge Namsai dist

ITANAGAR, July 19 - Incessant rains in the past couple of days have thrown life out of gear at Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh with Noa Dihing River along with its tributaries flowing above the danger mark.

All the low lying areas in the district have been submerged, while water of Noa Dihing River have entered villages of Silatoo, Mahadevpur-I and Mahadevpur-IV blocks, Namsai Deputy Commissioner RK Sharma said.

Reports of soil erosion along with loss of public and private properties were being received from various pockets of the district.

Hectares of cultivated land, especially paddy fields, have been submerged by the flood water, Sharma said adding the extent of loss can be ascertained only when flood water recedes.

The district administration has deputed NDRF team to shift the people from the affected areas.

Sharma visited the affected areas and personally monitored the flood situation. Relief camps have been set up at New Silatoo and Mahadevpur-I and essential items have been provided from the district administration.

Namsai district officials have been also directed to visit the affected areas and to keep vigil on possible epidemic in an around the affected villages. Fishermen have also been also warned to refrain to going to the rivers, Sharma added. - PTI
