BARPETA, March 17 - The Income Tax Department organised an awareness meeting on the importance of income tax payment in its office at Barpetaroad in Barpeta district yesterday.
Addressing the meeting as the chief guest, Shishir Jha, Commissioner of Income Tax, Guwahati Office, narrated in detail about the importance of payment of income tax, role of income tax in the development and welfare schemes of the country and functions of the officials of the department in the entire process.
Jha requested the people to strengthen the economy of the country by timely payment of income tax. The Income Tax Commissioner also responded to various queries raised by the people attending the meeting. The people demanded that another counter to deposit income tax should be opened in the Barpetaroad branch of the State Bank of India as one is not sufficient to cope with the rush.
They also apprised him about the troubles faced by them in the process of online payment of tax. Jha assured that the grievances raised by the valued tax-payers will be addressed properly. Earlier, the Income Tax officer of Barpetaroad office Rajashri Saha explained about the purpose of the meeting where an Income Tax Officer (Technical) from the Guwahati office also participated.
Representatives of business establishments and other organisations, chartered accountants and individual traders too attended the meet.
