Imphal to get four foot overbridges

By Correspondent

IMPHAL, Oct 11 - The Manipur Government is planning to construct four foot overbridges in and around Imphal town for the convenience of pedestrians.

This was stated by State Public Works Department Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh on the sidelines of the one-day conclave of local craft entrepreneurs, traditional craftsmen and MSMEs on Promoting entrepreneurship and harnessing untapped potential of Geographical Indications of Manipur here on Thursday.

These will be the first foot overbridges in the State. The footbridges will be constructed in front of the Kangla Fort, on the Bir Tikendrajit Road, and near the Keishampat junction and the Imphal College. The minister said the Government is planning to construct more foot overbridges.

We are targeting to complete the foot bridge near the Bir Tikendrajit flyover by November, while the one at Keishampat by December this year, he said. The one near the Imphal College will be completed either in December or in the early part of 2020.

The construction of the first foot overbridge has already started under the supervision of the State PWD in front of the Kangla Fort here. The project is funded by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the State PWD is the implementing agency. These foot bridges will ensure safety of pedestrians who will no longer have to cross busy roads by negotiating vehicular traffic.
