By Newmai News

IMPHAL, June 16 - The accused in the 2013 multi-crore drug haul case at Imphal Airport appeared before the Special Court of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance here on Thursday.

One of the accused, Okram Henry Singh failed to turn up for the court appearance. He had contested the last Manipur Assembly polls. The court was informed that he could not attend the court because of illness.

The four other accused are Rajneesh Kumar, Ramveer Tyagi, Md Rajauddin and Sapam Angus alias Nanao. Ramveer and Rajneesh are inhabitants of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

They were released on bail upon furnishing PR Bond of Rs 1 lakh each with two local sureties. The hearing for framing of charges in one of the biggest drug hauls in Manipur will be held in the court on July 8.

A team of Special Intelligence Unit (SIU) of Manipur Police seized the huge consignment of illicit drugs packed in cartons at Imphal Airport on January 11, 2013. The cartons were brought by an Air Deccan flight from Kolkata to Imphal.

Manipur Government then disbanded SIU a few days after the drug seizure incident which drew widespread condemnation from all quarters. Following the public uproar, the case was handed over to CBI. The CBI Special Crime Branch, Kolkata then submitted a chargesheet against Okram Henry and four other accused in the case.
