IMPHAL, June 2 - The fate of 245 candidates including 86 councillor candidates contesting for 27 wards of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) has been locked in ballot papers, after voters exercised their franchise on Thursday. The counting of votes will take place on Monday and results are expected the sameday.
The polling was held peacefully amidst tight security. No major untoward incident was reported except few skirmishes between supporters of the candidates.
Unlike the state assembly elections, ballot papers were used in 20 wards in IMC areas in Imphal West and Imphal East districts. Nine out of 27 wards are reserved for women candidates.
