Illicit liquor destroyed in Golokganj raid

DHUBRI, March 10 - In a major operation, Dhubri Police in the wee hours of Saturday busted a major trade route from which country-made illicit liquor is carried to different parts of Golokganj town for distribution.

Police informed that in the raid conducted by officials of Golokganj Police Station, it was found that traders carrying more than 500 litres of such liquor were being carried on five cycles. It was being carried to various parts of Golokganj area early in the morning.

Police also informed that such trade had been going on since the past several months.

�We have been very strict about trade of such liquor and have identified how the trade flourishes, i.e., from where the product is imported to the district,� said Dhubri Deputy Superintendent of Police Trinayan Bhuyan.

He added that in this particular raid, no arrest was made as all the cyclists carrying the illicit material managed to flee. Police subsequently destroyed the liquor seized.

In the wake of the tragic hooch tragedy, Dhubri Police has intensified operations in various parts of the district and has been successful in curbing the menace to a large extent.
