Illicit country liquor seized

MANGALDAI, July 19 - The Darrang Excise department, which has recently gained public confidence with some of their sincere operations against the notorious racket of illicit liquor traders in the district, on Tuesday achieved yet another success when its team managed to seize and destroy over 1000 litres of illicit country liquor in different locations under Mangaldai Excise Circle .

Talking to this correspondent, Pallabi Sharma Choudhury, Assistant Commissioner, in-charge of Superintendent of Excise, Darrang said that based on a tip- off, team of excise staff led by Excise Inspector Ranjit Baisya carried out operations in Bongalagarh, Bhakatpara, Gadhiyapara and Ojagaon and seized a total of around 1,200 litres of illicit country liquor while it was being carried in bicycles and a car to different places for sale. In this connection, six persons including an owner of a road-side dhaba at Shaktola were arrested. A car bearing registration No. AS-O1-U-7328 along with three bicycles used for carrying the bags with illicit liquor were also recovered, the source added.

Moreover, in other raids conducted on the nights of July 14 and 15 last, excise officials of Sipajhar and Mangaldai circle seized illegally-stored IMFL of around 12 litres and 5.5 litres respectively besides about 90 litres of illicit country liquor. Six persons were arrested in this regard.
