Illegal liquor worth Rs 168 cr destroyed

JALUKBARI, Aug 10 - As part of the State government�s ongoing crackdown on illegal liquor syndicates, and as per instructions from the court, the State excise department and Bureau of Investigation of Economic Offences (BIEO) destroyed a huge quantity of seized liquor in Lokhra area this afternoon.

State Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya himself crushed over 6 lakh seized liquor bottles with a road roller.

It may be mentioned that in 2016, a huge quantity of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) and beer bottles of assorted brands were seized from four different places at Khatkai in Karbi Anglong district and around 17,410 cases of IMFL were seized by police and BIEO officials from 14 Guwahati-bound loaded trucks.

The BIEO had lodged four cases in 2016 and arrested 13 people in this connection.

The estimated value of the seized liquor is around Rs 168,54,31,349. The excise department will continue its crackdown on illegal sale of liquor.
