Illegal collection of parking fees alleged

DIPHU, Aug 2 - An allegation of illegal parking charge collection from vehicles has come to the light here at Khatkhati in Karbi Anglong. According to allegation received, a group of individual have been collecting huge sums of money illegally from small and heavy vehicles in the name of parking.

In this regard, Karbi Farmers� Association (Rajesh Tisso faction) has already lodged several complaints at the Karbi Anglong Deputy Commissioner�s office against the people who are involved in the illegal activity.

According to the farmers� association, a group of people without proper permission from the authority concerned has been involved in this act since the past couple of years at Khatkhati under Bokajan subdivision.

According to the association, heavy rates are being charged against small and heavy vehicles starting from Rs 30 to Rs 800 per hour in the name of parking and gate pass.

Several persons names like Umesh Jaiswal, Raju Chetry, Shivnath Singh, Tarun Nandi, Joshman Singh, Swapon Bonik, Md Faijul Islam, Ramkasung, Madan Singh, Sanjoy Singh, Manik Choudhury, Babulal Shyam and Samir Kumar Gupta have been mentioned in the complaints lodged at the Deputy Commissioner�s office. Without getting permission from the competent authority, the group has been fixing parking spaces and deciding the rates for vehicles themselves, the association alleged.

It may be mentioned here that due to negligence of the district administration, the government has been losing huge amount of sums daily. In this regard, several complaints have also been lodged by the drivers and owners of vehicles. But no concrete response has been given by the authority concerned, the farmer association alleged.

Meanwhile, KFA appealed to the district administration to take prompt action to close down such illegal parking spaces owned by various individuals and groups.

Besides, they urged the administration to take legal action against the aforesaid persons who are directly or indirectly involved in illegal activities.
