GUWAHATI, June 3 - With an objective to make people, especially the younger generation aware of the evil consequences of tobacco consumption, the North East Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (NECHRI) in collaboration with the Nalbari district unit of All Assam Students� Union organised various programmes on May 31 last on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day.
An awareness meeting held at the Swahid Bhavan in Nalbari was attended by Nalbari Deputy Commissioner Bharat Bushan Dev Choudhury, Nalbari district AASU general secretary Akshay Deka, district employees� association secretary Hemen Choudhury and NECHRI chairman Ganesh Tamuli.
In his address, Tamuli said that globally one person dies every 7 minutes due to oral cancer and emphasised that young people should observe every day as no tobacco day in order to check the dangerous habit of tobacco consumption in any form.
A rally, participated by nearly 500 students from across Nabari district was flagged off by the DC, a press release stated.
