IITG course on design from today

GUWAHATI, Feb 11 - The Department of Design, IIT Guwahati, will be organising an inter-institutional course on �Design for Sustainability (DFS) and Distributed Economies� in the institute campus from February 12 to 23.

The course is being supported by the LeNSin EU-funded Erasmus+ programme. Student groups from the Srishti Institute of Art, Deign and Technology, Bangalore; the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur; the Department of Architecture and Planning, Mizoram University and SBMS College, Sualkuchi, Assam, will take part in the event.

�During the two-week course, the students will be introduced to the concepts of design and sustainability by undertaking field-based studies to assess the local traditional practice of silk weaving at Sualkuchi,� an IIT Guwahati spokesperson said.

A public lecture on �Sustainability and Design for All� by Prof Carlo Vezzoli, Politecnico di Milano, Italy, will also be organised at the mini auditorium of IITG campus at 5 pm tomorrow.

He has been researching and teaching on the subject of design for sustainability for the last 20 years. He is currently the head of the research group �Design and System Innovation for Sustainability (DIS)� and the research lab �LeNS_LabPolimi�.

The Department of Design at IIT Guwahati is the Indian partner institute of the LeNS in consortium with the Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore.
