IMPHAL, Aug 6 - A powerful bomb suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered in the heart of the Imphal town on Saturday morning.

The IED was detected near the approach road located in between Defence PROs office and Johnstone higher secondary school around 6.30 am today and was safely defused by the State bomb experts team, sources said.

Interestingly, the distance between the bomb recovery site and the bomb blast near State Museum complex on Friday was barely 50 metres. A CRPF personnel and minor girl were injured in the blast.

Meanwhile, protesting Fridays bomb explosion, the women vendors of the temporary Womens Market in Imphal staged a sit-in demonstration today.

In view of the incidents, the police have intensified their security measures in and around Imphal by conducting frisking and checking of vehicles and passerbys on Saturday. Police also conducted a search operation at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai in Imphal.
