Idol immersion largely plastic-free this time

GUWAHATI, Oct 9 - As a step to prevent water pollution, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration has requested all Durga puja committees of Guwahati to remove all plastic-made materials from the idols before performing the immersion ritual on the day Bijoya Dashami.

Officials of the district administration stated that the step get very good response from every puja committee members and everyone cooperate with the administrative machinery.

Following the order, the district administration, with the help of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, sent all those plastic-made materials to the garbage dumping ground to dispose.

Moreover, the district administration also carried out cleanliness drives in every immersion point of Guwahati here this morning.

On the day of Bijoya Dashami, altogether 349 idols were immersed at Kachamari Ghat, 34 idols were immersed at Sunsali Ghat, 76 idols were immersed at Saukuchi Ghat, 15 idols were immersed at Basistha, 31 idols were immersed at Sonapur, 26 idols were immersed at Chandrapur and 17 idols were immersed at Azara immersion point. Immersion rituals at Pandu Ghat are still under way.
