IMPHAL, May 27 - Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has urged the Prime Minister for substantial enhancement of North Eastern Council (NEC) and National Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) budget and for providing flexible additional funds to the NE States, considering the bonafide needs of the economically backward small States of North East.
Ibobi was speaking in the 65th Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council in Shillong on Friday, said an official press release here.
On Act East Policy and the role of NEC, Ibobi stated, NEC can play the role of regional council of the NER envisaged in the NITI Aayog for planning and development in the region as a whole and can spearhead infrastructure as well as human resource development of the region.
Stating that Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal rail project would help State�s transport network, he urged the NF Railway for timely completion of the Jiribam-Tupul section by March 2017.
On livelihood projects considering the performance of NERCORMP-II projects in Senapati and Ukhrul district, he said, �We have high expectation from NERCORP-III projects implemented in Chandel and Churachandpur districts. We request for expansion of livelihood project to uncovered villages including Tamenglong and Jiribam.�
