Ibobi launches houses for quake-hit villagers

CHALBUNG (MANIPUR), Aug 11 - Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today inaugurated newly-constructed houses for earthquake victims at Chalbung and Charhajare villages in Senapati district.

Speaking on the occasion at a function held at Chalbung village in Senapati district, Ibobi said that the devastating earthquake that rocked Manipur on January 4 this year hit Senapati district also and fully damaged a total of 1,055 houses and 622 houses partially in seven sub-divisions. He stated that Manipur being in the earthquake prone area lying in Zone-V, one must take due care while constructing houses.

Lauding the district administration for time-bound completion of house construction, Ibobi appealed to complete the target of constructing around 1,020 houses in the district. He expressed his happiness to know that nearly 80 per cent of the work has been completed.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam presiding over the function appealed to avoid building mud houses as Manipur lies within the earthquake prone area.

Earlier, a monolith was unveiled by the Chief Minister commemorating the function and inspected a photo gallery showing photographs of the damaged houses and distribution of relief materials to the villagers.
