Ibobi lauds role of media

IMPHAL, Sept 16 � The 41st foundation day of the All Manipur Working Journalists� Union (AMWJU) was celebrated at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul here today with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh as the chief guest.

Presentation of gifts to veteran journalists of the State and also to relatives of those journalists who have laid down their lives in the line of duty marked the day.

Speaking on the occasion, Ibobi lauded the role of media in a small State like Manipur which is facing numerous issues and problems. Mediapersons have been playing a very effective role in mitigating these problems and leading the society to the right direction. He added that barring Guwahati, Manipur has the best media activities among all the NE States. Considering the role played by media in Manipur, the government is extending necessary help and support from time to time, he added.

Ibobi informed the gathering that the State Cabinet has reviewed the functioning of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations and intends to revamp the directorate by sanctioning two additional posts of Director, besides giving a new nomenclature to the District Information Officer.

State Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, who was also present on the occasion as the guest of honour, also highlighted the role of media in the State.
