By Sobhapati Samom

IMPHAL, Jan 13 - Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has lauded the Assam Rifles deployed along the Indo-Myanmar border for carrying out counter-insurgency operations in Northeastern States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura.

Undoubtedly the Assam Rifles has been instrumental in the return of normalcy and controlling the violence levels in these States, the Chief Minister said. Manipur too, has been subjected to violent insurgencies for decades, costing thousands of lives and impacting peace and development in the State, he observed.

Speaking at the first ex-servicemen rally of Assam Rifles at Mantripukhuri near here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said this rally is a platform for renewing old bonds, felicitating our brave veterans and Veer Naris and addressing grievances pertaining to pension and other benefits.

Manipur is trying to emerge out of decades of conflict and economic stagnation. There is a visible transformation all around. The State is the lynchpin of Indias Act East Policy and will thus witness tremendous growth in years to come, he added.
