IMPHAL, Nov 14 - Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh underscored the importance of media�s role in functioning of a government which is essential to the safeguarding of democratic processes.
Speaking as chief guest at the inaugural session of the workshop on the role of media in development of hill area in Manipur on Saturday, the Manipur CM said that news media always provide a check on government activities.
The workshop was organised by Manipur Hill Journalists� Union (MHJU) at Sangai Hall, Imphal Hotel here. Fifty journalists from different media houses took part in it.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and Revenue Minister I Hemochndra Singh were present at the event.
