IAF NoC delaying night landing at Kumbirgram

SILCHAR, July 31 � Despite clamour for the night landing services at the Kumbirgram Airport here is gaining momentum by every passing day, the authorities of Kumbirgram Airport have once again made it clear that the decision in this regard has to be taken by the authority of the Indian Air Force.

A meeting was held on Monday at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner here to discuss the ongoing process regarding the land acquisition in Kumbirgram. In the meeting which was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner Gokul Mohan Hazarika, the officials of Kumbirgram Airport informed that the NoC from the Indian Air Force is holding up the commencement of the night landing service.

The Sports and Excise Minister of Assam Ajit Singh and members of other organisations also took part in the discussion but no official from the IAF was present in the meeting.

Meanwhile, a 16-member committee was formed which will take stock of the ground realities of the proposed land acquisition on August 5.

The committee includes two ADCs dealing with revenue and land acquisition affairs, land acquisition officer, ASO Udharbond, two representatives each from the IAF and Kumbirgram Airport, president, secretary of ITA, one representative from Barak Chah Shramik Union, manager of Kumbha tea garden, president of Kumbha Garden Panchayat and three locals of the area.
