I-Day celebrated with pomp and grandeur

GUWAHATI, Aug 17 - Reports of I-Day celebrations in various parts of the state have come in our Correspondents report:

Jamugurihat: The 70th Independence Day was celebrated with pomp and gaiety in the campus of the 12 Assam Police Battalion, Kusumtola. The weeklong celebrations organised by the battalion from August 8, started with tree plantation and cleanliness drives in the campuses of Jamuguri HS School, Amritopom Public School, Kusumtola, Kusumtola Model Hospital led by its assistant commandant Punyeswar Doley. A friendly footbal match, free medical check-up camp, driving training for unemployed youths and the cleaning of the campus of the battalion were the other programmes as a part of fostering police public relation. The celebration culminated on August 15 with the hoisting of the National Tricolour by the commandant of the Bn, Brajenjit Singha at the parade ground. Games and on-the-spot drawing competition among the students, musical chairs among women, �tug-of-war� game between police and NDRF, a beautiful cultural presentation depicting patriotic songs and dance, opening of a branch of Bhaskar Jyoti Kala Kendra in the campus by Commandant Singha and a colourful variety entertainment show in the evening were the programmes of the celebration.

Rangiya: The 70th Independence Day was celebrated with pomp and grandeur amidst a mammoth gathering here at Rangiya Higher Secondary School playground. The National Flag was hoisted by the chief guest and SDO (Civil) Kailash Karthik N. Earlier, a colourful march past was presented by troupes from Assam Police Battalion, NCC, Scouts & Guides, Rangiya College, and different other schools of the locality. Later, veteran freedom fighter Krishna Lahkar of the locality, successful sports persons, farmers, retired teachers, employees etc., were felicitated. Local MLA Bhabesh Kalita, former MLA Ghanashyam Kalita among others attended the event.

Bokakhat: The 70th Independence Day was celebrated centrally by the Bokakhat civil administration at the Bokakhat stadium ground in a befitting manner. The Tricolour was unfurled by the SDO (civil) of Bokakhat, Nawab Al Azahar Ali amidst huge gathering of students, government officials and the public. Students from different educational institutions presented march past along with the police personnel. Felicitation and cultural functions were also organised on the occasion.

Assam Asset: Assam Asset celebrated the 70th Independence Day with full zeal and vigour. Budhin Deuri, ED - Asset Manager, Assam Asset, unfurled the National Tricolour, amidst the ONGCians, former ONGCians, distinguished guests and a large number of people from the surrounding areas of Nazira, assembled in front of the Administrative Building, ONGC, Nazira.

The hoisting of the National Tricolour was followed by the rendition of the National Anthem. Deuri inspected and received the Guard-of-Honour, presented by contingents of CISF, 25th Assam Police Battalion, ONGC Security, Fire Services, Home Guards, NCC of KV Nazira, students of KV and DPS Nazira amid cheers and thunderous applause from spectators.

Baihata Chariali: The 70th Independence Day was celebrated at Kamalpur Revenue Circle premises with a daylong colourful programme. Bipul Kumar Das, Circle Officer of Kamalpur Revenue Circle hoisted the National Tricolour before a huge gathering after Ramen Choudhury, ex-principal of Kamalpur HS School had performed swahid tarpan.

Deepjyoti Deka and Bandita Das, 12th and 19th position holders of HSLC examination 2016, were felicitated on the occasion.
