I-Day celebrated at NF Railway

GUWAHATI, Aug 18 � The 65th Independence Day was celebrated in the entire operational area of Northeast Frontier Railway with patriotic fervour.

Keshav Chandra, general manager, NF Railway unfurled the National Flag at NF Railway headquarters in presence of hundreds of railway men and their families. The Tri-colour was also hoisted in the five divisional headquarters besides the workshops and all other supervisory offices. The general manager also inspected a guard of honour by Railway Protection Force and Scouts and Guides of NFRBS & G, a press release stated.

Unfurling the Tricolour, the general manager lauded the efforts of the employees of the NF Railway for propelling the organisation in the path of development and growth for nation building. He thanked and appreciated the achievements reached in overall operations of the zonal railway and appealed to the employees to dedicate themselves with renewed vigour so that the vision and dreams of development of those, who sacrificed themselves for attaining Independence, can be realised.

The general manager said, the financial year 2010-11 had been an encouraging one for NF Railway. He said there had been an increase of 12 per cent in originating passenger earnings till the end of July 2011 (Rs 212 crore) than the earnings for corresponding period of the last year.

Chandra said, 1021 trips of special trains were run during the last financial making more than 12 lakhs berths/seats available for travelling public. In addition to this, 13 trains have been augmented with additional coaches permanently making availability of extra 720 seats.

He expressed serious concern of the prevailing security scenario and called upon the railwaymen to renew the pledge to work harder as a team with all sincerity and dedication to achieve the organisational goals and said that NF Railway is committed for the development and progress of the Northeast region.

Later, the general manager and members of the NF Railway Women�s Welfare Organisation led by its president, Renu Chandra participated in fruits distribution programme among the patients of the Railway Central Hospital, Maligaon, the release added.
