I-D celebration today

GUWAHATI, Aug 14 - Along with the rest of the country, the 69th Independence Day of the country will be centrally celebrated in the State at the Khanapara Veterinary College playground with a host of programmes tomorrow. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will ceremoniously unfurl the Tricolour at 9 am. It will be followed by a parade, a cultural pageant and other programmes at the venue.

Another highlight of the day will be the distribution of fruits, etc., to the inmates of Central Jail, patients of MMC Hospital, Dr B Borooah Cancer Hospital, TB Hospital, inmates of destitute home of Jalukbari, orphanage at Fatasil-Ambari, students of blind school at Basistha and Deaf and Dumb School at Kahilipara. The National Flag will be hoisted at all government and semi-government offices, educational institutions, public and private institutions, households, etc., at 7.30 am.

At the Chief Minister�s Block at the Assam Secretariat, SC Das, Additional Chief Secretary, will hoist the flag at 7.30 am.

Sok Divas will also be observed at 11 am on August 16 in front of Block-A of Secretariat to mourn the tragic death of innocent children and other persons killed in a bomb blast while attending the Independence Day celebration at Dhemaji in 2004.
